King of the Hill...err Bed

We are in a period of transition. Oh, not me, I am just the provider of comfort and care. I have always been careful about safety. I insist that any of the babies be able to get up on the bed and off of the bed on their own before they are allowed to sleep on the bed at night.

This is not to say that I do not encourage them want to be on the bed. I will bring them onto the bed with me during the day for reading or watching television, as long as I am awake and can watch out for them.

Tara, the baby, is old enough to start spending time up on the bed with mom and the rest of the crew. This is an advent that delights Tara...unfortunately, it is not as winsome a prospect to the older kids. Tiffany, voices her objections loudly, every time Tara comes within 10 feet of the bed. She snaps and snarls like a rabid wolf in her attempts to dissuade Tara from seeking access to the vaulted edifice of the bed.

Sunny and Kyra are not as obvious as Tiffany, being less forthright and more devious than their smaller sibling, they prefer the less direct and more defensible approach of knocking her off of the bed or simply aggravating remorselessly.

Needless to say, all of the above detailed activities are extremely distracting and annoying to their human companion...me! Not that any of them seem to be in the least bit concerned about my objections to their behavior. For the most part, they ignore my rebukes, other than to project their damaged feelings subtlety of a bulldozer.

In time, the three older kids will accept the presence of the baby, both on the bed and off, but, at the present time, they are doing everything they can think of to deny her very existence. Of course, the fact that the three older kids are litter mates and have never questioned the rights of the others does not enhance Tara's already tenuous position. She is a scrappy little thing though. She is not going to fade away or even give ground quietly. It will be interesting to see where she ends up in the hierarchy of Lhasa royalty.

In the meantime, I guess I will have to deal with interruption of my reading and disruption of my television viewing to referee the battle of the Lhasas. I will endure with patience, waiting for the day when peace will once again reign in the kingdom.
