Spring Fever

Well, spring is definitely here. The weather is turning warm and the flowers are blooming and there are new babies everywhere. The kids are in seventh heaven. They love the warm sunshine and the flowers and grass. They spend hours watching the birds and squirrels and they are totally enchanted with the new foals.

So far this month, my hard drive has crashed, I have spent 6 nights without sleep watching the mares that delivered those adored foals and I have gotten so far behind from the night watches and lack of sleep that I may never catch up. Yep, spring is here alright.

The fur kids seem to have weathered the storm just fine, in spite of the fact that they made every single trek out to the barn with all three of us and since we were doing checks every half hour that was 48 checks every day and 288 trips to the barn in the six day period. I wish I had withstood as well as they have.

Apparently it was worth it to them. They all stared in wide-eyed wonder as each of the three foals came into the world. Having been there at their arrival, they now seem to think that they have a vested interest in them. The sit for hours at a time just watching them. They slip quietly into the pasture and cuddle up to them when they lay down for a nap. They are entirely smitten with these babies.

I guess this is another one of those "stop and smell the roses" lessons that they give so well. New life, and all the wonders that it brings is still precious to them. They are more than just new foals to the Lhasas they share their world with; they are gift from the angels and a reaffirmation of life and love and everything that is good and right. Far from taking them for granted, the Lhasas every development and every new activity as a brand new miracle, worthy of notice and appreciation. I guess this is a lot of why I could not bear to live without a Lhasa anymore. They remind me of how important the little things are, the things that so often get lost in the shuffle of this fast paced, busy world. They never let me forget that I need to slow down and look around me and notice and appreciate what God has put on this earth for us to enjoy. For that, I owe them a lot.
