A Gift That Says Thank You

For many, Thanksgiving means turkey, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce and stuffing yourself silly until you have to unbutton your jeans, and still going back for more. Others recognize that historically Thanksgiving has something to do with pilgrims and Indians and corn. Some are aware of the concept of a cornucopia or horn of plenty. What people forget to do sometimes is say thanks. There is a very simple way you can do this with paper. First off, decide who deserves thanks for their impact on your lives. It may be a friend, partner, spouse, lover or even a co-worker. Think about all the wonderful things people have done for your throughout the year. Then think what you could do in return as a gift of thanks. Make up a list of people and things that are within your realm to do. It may be a fresh baked apple pie for your neighbor who was there for you when your father died. It may be a massage for your spouse at the end of a hard business deal. Perhaps you want to thank your mom for being a great sitter for the kids by agreeing to come over and wash her floors once a month because she's gotten bad arthritis in her knees. Maybe your local minister deserves a kind thank you for his efforts in the community which have gone unthanked, but noticed by you. So, what has all this got to do with paper? Coupons. We see them in mass production in our newspapers, but it is the handcrafted coupon I am talking about here. Easy to make, easy to honor. Welcomed by anyone who is always helping others but doesn't think of their own needs all that often. Once you have your list of people, go out and purchase some brightly colored construction paper. Usually you can get this in pads at most stores. Also get some colorful markers and a pair of scissors, a container of glue and you have all you need. The process is very simple. Cut a sheet of construction paper to the coupon size you want. Cut another sheet a bit larger for a border and glue it behind the first sheet. Then use the markers to create your thank you coupon. Here's a sample of what you can write on it: This certificate entitles bearer to one 30 minute massage to say Thank You for being such a loving husband. Certificate must be presented one hour before service.
