The concept is simple, and can be modified to make a long foldout card, a poster or larger card or some lovely refrigerator or corkboard art. It all depends on the size of the lil' angel and your imagination. This card uses the hands of a young child, a full-body photograph and store bought hand-crafted papers to make a card that is 8.5 x 5.5 inches.
Materials:
1 sheet cardstock in white or off-white 1 sheet handcrafted paper in yellows or golds 1 bottle gold metallic non-toxic paint 1 flat paintbrush 1 photograph a toothpick scissors rubber cement markers access to soap and water for clean-up
Creative Process:
1. Fold the cardstock in half so that the 8.5" x 11" sheet becomes a 5" x 8.5" card.
2. Paint your child's hands with non-toxic gold metallic paint.
3. Press handprints onto the handcrafted paper then quickly clean up.
4. After allowing to dry, cut handprints out, leaving an edge of paper.
5 Glue handprints with palms together in the center, and fingers fanning toward the outer edges of the card to create wings.
6. Carefully cut out the photograph along the edges of the child's body.
7. Apply rubber cement to the back and center between the handprints.
8. With toothpick, draw a halo above the child's head on the cardstock.
9. Once the outside of the card has dried, use markers to personalize the inside with messages like, "daddy's lil' angel" or "happy father's day".
Be sure to let your child help as much as possible, this will help personalize it for daddy. When creating with children, always make sure you use child safety scissors, non-toxic paints and other materials.
This works great for "grampa's lil' angel" too! The possibilities are endless, from using children's photos to send to loved ones, or in making cards for your spouse with photos of yourself. The occasions and the applications for the lil' angel card are only limited by your own creativity and imagination.
