And you know what? I’m not alone. I know a lot of LBGT people who don’t “look” gay or transgendered. (And I know a few straight people who do. I once spent ten minutes flirting with a woman I was sure was a dyke, only to learn that she was not only heterosexual, she was also a member of a high-profile anti-gay group. Oops.)
A few years ago, this was a society where everyone was assumed to be straight. Period. We’ve finally moved a step away from that position. Now, everyone is assumed to be straight. Unless they “look” gay. It’s progress. Sort of. At least, it is in that we’ve allowed the idea of homosexuality to enter our cultural mindset. (Thank you and kudos to the pioneers who worked so hard to make that happen!) But now, it’s time to take the next step. It’s time for everyone—gay and straight—to set stereotypes about sexuality on a high, dusty shelf and forget them. Forever. In the meantime, please don’t bother to tell me I don’t look like a lesbian. I already know. Go To Page: 1 2
