The Battlefield Line Railway

Further hard work saw track rearrangements which created run-round loops at both ends of the line and a number of sidings at Shackerstone. Their dedication paid off when the society gained it's Light Railway Order and an associated operating certificate from Major Rose of the Railway Inspectorate.
Now that things were coming together the society launched a fund raising appeal in the hopes of reinstating the track to Shenton. When completed, the track would link to Market Bosworth's Battlefield site.

Many visitors donated a pound to cover the 1.5 miles of rail and tons of ballast needed to reach the Battlefield. The fund raiser was a success and in August 1992, the first train pulled into Shenton Station, it was hauled rather fittingly by the tank engine, 'Richard III.' It was a proud moment for the society as friends, guests and civic dignitaries attended to watch the inauguration.

The Railway Today
The society has continued its outstanding work and is still a voluntary organisation with no paid staff. Despite this, they still run within the same safety standards as the country's main rail network. The Battlefield Line values it's members above anything else and they actively encourage membership for any train enthusiast. Members can also get actively involved, opportunities are available for all types of position from station porters, to bar staff, to the biggie itself - loco driver!

The Shackerstone Station offers all kinds of goodies to keep you entertained:

The Station Shop - offers a range of goodies, from stationary to videos and special souvenirs.
The Museum - Curator and Society President, John C Jacques has launched his first book, 'Railway Tales.' The book revolves around characters and events that could be found happening on and around the Ashby and Nuneaton Joint Railway that is now the Battlefield Line.
