David Weston's professional career began in 1969 after a successful exhibition at the British Transport Museum. More than thirty years on, David has earned the right to be proud of himself and to have every fellow Lestrian share in that pride with him. It is therefore with honour that I present to you...David Weston.

David's extensive achievements could fill this article easily without any help from me. Therefore, for the majority of them, I shall refer you to David himself. His Web Site offers a feast for the eyes, beginning with a dramatic index page that entices you inside with promises of more delights.

Royal Connections

The first paragraph of David's bio reads - -

David Weston's paintings have enjoyed successful showings in both private and public galleries, and are represented in such collections as, The Royal Scottish Museum in Edinburgh, Glasgow City Art Galleries, The National Railway Museum, and British Rail, together with several other national and provincial public collections.

Need I say more?

How about the five published books of his transport paintings, or the two television documentaries produced of him by Central TV and Anglia TV? Anglia TV's biography of David, depicted his set of paintings commissioned by the Hon Sir William McAlpine on the History of the British Steam Locomotive. This portrayal of David's work brought more than the artist to the fore.

David earned royal recognition with this set of paintings. His Royal Highness, The Duke of Edinburgh invited David to Buckingham Palace for an informal discussion that centered on David's paintings, and the theme of industry and art.

In reality, David's talent and hard earned acclaim require no introduction on my part. His paintings speak for themselves. The detail, the atmosphere and the variety of both oil and watercolour, combine to bellow brilliance with every brush stroke.
Hence I have no need to promote his artistic work, I certainly could never give it the justice it so rightly deserves.

I decided to focus instead on presenting the man behind the artist. David, very graciously blessed me with this opportunity.
