Cook's achievements did not rest there, he went on to offer travel all around the World. For more details of his great achievements, please visit the history page of the Thomas Cook web site.

Cook died in the 1890's, but not before leaving behind a name that is now known worldwide and a modern travel agents that continues to provide the exceptional services he initiated.

As well as having numerous branch offices around the country, in Leicester itself on the Narborough Road, sits the Thomas Cook public house. So should you ever be passing that way, step inside, toast Mr. Cook and then thank him for giving you the idea to become a tourist!

Update: Local Leicestershire man Neil Burman recently contacted me and sent the photo shown left. He tells me that the Thomas Cook pub was recently demolished to make way for housing. He managed to grab a photo of it before it was, which he very kindly shared with me. Thank you Neil for taking the time to do that. It's such a shame that we're losing this place!
