An Eclipse Festival!!

Stuart MacWatt, our very own Travel Sleuth has managed to unearth an interesting event occurring in the UK in honour of the forthcoming eclipse. So if you're planning a trip to England over the eclipse period, then this article is for you!

Jeremy Hammett has kindly provided details for a celebration that plans to incorporate a little bit of everything. Perhaps most interesting is the location of the festival itself. The festival site which lies on the southern slopes of Bodmin Moor near Liskeard, actually sits on a Ley Line known as the St. Michael Ley Line.

Even more interesting is that NASA itself has stated that this location will likely be the best place in the entire UK from which to see the eclipse. The slopes, being the highest place of ground on the line of totality should allow viewers of the eclipse to watch the shadow of the moon as it progresses across the land - a spectacular site indeed!!

To celebrate the Druid aspect of the eclipse, Jeremy tells us that they plan to erect a standing stone to commemorate this occasion. How will they do this? Well, forget the mechanical help, this feat is going to be achieved by human strength alone! Ropes, wooden levers and lots of sweat should not only make this event realistically authentic, but certainly a very interesting one too! To add to the authenticity, local Druids have offered to attend and add their blessings to the ceremony.

Naturally, the main event of course is the Eclipse and there are numerous events planned for this occasion. Jeremy is expecting about twenty different bands to contribute their talents to this festival and a local astronomer will be giving talks about Eclipses and their significance.

You'll learn what eclipses are, what to look for and most importantly, how to view them safely. In addition, various historians will host eclipse historical sessions detailing the effect the eclipse has had in ages past and how they have affected people from prehistoric times onwards. There really will be something for all!

As for accommodation, well that has been taken care of for you too and if you like camping, then this trip really is for you! The hosts are offering camping for up to 2,000 people, local caterers will be offering hot and cold meals, and there will also be a licensed bar available. Bathroom facilities are being erected specifically for this occasion offering toilet and shower amenities. You'll have everything you need and all on site too, what's more convenient than that?
