“Too Bad” Fuels Nickelback’s Rock Stamina
Nickelback is most known for the rock-heavy album Silver Side Up, which to date has gone triple platinum-spawning the Top 5 hit How You Remind Me.Too Bad is also following suit clocking in at #6 and #4 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock track and Active Rock charts, respectively. As of late, both songs are simultaneously charted in the Top 10 of the Mainstream Rock track chart. Pretty good for a band whose bassist worked at a Vancouver Starbucks in 1996-where he got the name for the band. Nickelback came to the U.S. via record label Roadrunner to flood rock radio with their debut release The State. Already a success in Canada, the band had garnered awards in the 1999 West Coast Canadian Music Awards, and Leader of Men climbed to Top 20 on the Canadian Rock Radio charts. The lineup consists of the Kroeger brothers Chad-guitars/lead vocals-and Mike-bass; Ryan Peake-guitars/vocals; and Ryan Vikedal-drums. Their second album Silver Side Up draws on tunes written in their Vancouver-pre-The State days and were performed for the band's initial local following. Veteran rock producer Rick Parashar (Pearl Jam) helped Nickleback record their album where they headed back to Vancouver's renowned Green House studio. After an overwhelmingly fast recording time of just five days, the band had a set of 13 brand new songs for mixing guru Randy Staub (Metallica). The result: a fresh rock CD for the group to unleash on the public and it's still going strong. The video for "Too Bad" debuted at the #1 spot on the CVC Rock/Alternative chart this week. The song and video is in rotation on VH1 and MTV, the latter of which debuted the NICKELBACK "Diary" special on February 6. Too Bad was recorded live on the sold-out Canadian tour A DVD of the Edmonton show will be released later this year on Roadrunner Records. At two very special shows, Nickelback were joined onstage by friend Jerry Cantrell, formerly of Alice In Chains to perform a version of AIC's It Ain't Like That. Making some more news the band contributed Yanking Out My Heart to the soundtrack of The Scorpion King. The song is only available on the soundtrack album due out on March 26 in the U.S. Other Nickelback updates:
