“The Sorcerer’s Stone” was released just a few years ago to international acclaim. It’s author, J.K. Rowling, a single mother from the U.K, won numerous awards for this first book, and rightfully so in my opinion.
This first book introduces us to a young orphan named Harry Potter, who has lived all of his life with his horrible Aunt, Uncle and cousin who hate him. His bedroom is the closet under the staircase, and he never gets anything new. His Christmas presents consist of hand me down pairs of socks, if he’s lucky. He has no friends, he is not allowed to go to town, and his family keeps him from socializing with anyone. Why? Because Harry’s parents were wizards. You see, J.K., Rowling has created this wonderful world where wizards live among all of us “muggles,” (non- wizards). They have their own towns, their own schools, their own banks, etc... Muggles, however are generally unaware of the existence of these so called wizards, and the Dursley’s, Harry’s family, wants to make sure no one ever finds out that the boy they have living in their house ever came from a wretched type like that, Mrs. Dursley’s own sister!
As Harry’s 11th birthday arrives, again it goes uncelebrated. He has never received a present, a cake, a card, or even a “Happy Birthday” wish. His birthdays are completely ignored. But things are about to change. One day a letter arrives for Harry. This is a the first time this has ever happened. It is a wizarding school, Hogwarts, writing to inform him he has been granted entrance to their school. Despite the Dursley’s attempts to keep his wizarding past from him, Harry is told
