Hello readers! I am here after a long break through in my articles. Now I have decided to publish articles on monthly basis because I have no longer enough time due to my admission in NUST (National University of Sciences & Technology). We have almost completed the Flash. Today our article is ‘Animations and Timeline’. After writing the next article on ‘Publishing Flash Movies’, I shall start Projects and want to write several articles on this. These Project articles are basically meant for teaching Action Scripting and certain animation effects.
As you know all the functioning of Flash is based upon Timeline and each animation on stage is represented on the timeline. Conversely, you can say that by looking at the timeline, the whole animation on the stage can be easily understood. If you don’t know representations of animations on timeline, you cannot create animations or understand animations. Following are the different representations of animations on timeline.
It is a representation of Motion tweening on timeline, light blue frames with first frame having black dot followed by an arrow. The black dot is a mark of keyframe, arrow is a mark of tweened frames and light blue background is showing the nature of tweening, i.e. Motion tweening.
It is a representation of Shape tweening on timeline, light green frames with first frame having black dot followed by an arrow. The only difference in representations of Motion tweening and Shape tweening is the background color.
It is also a representation of Motion tweening but a dashed line instead of an arrow is showing that final keyframe is not present and hence Flash cannot tween frames in between for that it will no work. We must have a look on such broken animations on the timeline. If you want to do an experiment of this, create a motion tween as usual; select the final keyframe and press DEL key, the arrow will be converted to dashed line.
It is a representation you might have seen. If no, lets find its use. Suppose you want to create an animation in which a ball starting from extreme left will go right and wait somewhere in the middle of screen and after waiting sometime here, move to the right. How to do this? First create a motion tween that will let the ball in the middle of screen. Now we want from the ball to wait sometime here. For this select a certain frame by placing some gap after motion tween and choose Insert > Blank Keyframe. After that create an another motion tween that will let the ball to go to extreme right.
