Many Latin stars including Emilio and Gloria Estefan http://www.gloriafan.com/nonFlash.htm attended ceremonies in Miami on July 7, 2000, where nominees in forty categories of Latin music were announced. The awards are to be broadcast in 120 countries from the Staples Center in Los Angeles on September 13.

Record of the Year: Tiempos (Ruben Blades); Dimelo (Marc Anthony); Corazon Espinado (Santana featuring Mana); Livin' La Vida Loca (Ricky Martin); Fruta Fresca (Carlos Vives).
Album of the Year: Amarte Es Un Placer (Luis Miguel); Livro (Caetano Veloso); MTV Unplugged (Shakira); El Amor De Mi Tierra (Carlos Vives); Ni Es Lo Mismo Ni Es Igual (Juan Luis Guerra).
Song of the Year (given to the songwriter): O Tu O Ninguna (Juan Carlos Calderon); Al Lado Del Camino (Fito Paez); El Niagara En Bicicleta (Juan Luis Guerra); Fruta Fresca (Martin Madera); Dimelo (Marc Anthony, Robert Blades, Angie Chirino and Cory Rooney).
Best New Artist: Cafe Quijano, Amaury Gutierrez, Ibrahim Ferrer, Ivete Sangalo, Fernando Osorio.
