Summer Yarn Sales: Good Deals or Closet Insulators
We should be able, by now, to just make what we like and wear what pleases us and most of the time that works. But when a person handknits a beautiful garment, having it be trendy is such an added bonus.
Before you hit the sales:
- Research the colors for the next season - unless it is a basic color that is part of your wardrobe, pass up the yarn - there are others that will be just as good.
- Have a list with you of the colors or color families you prefer. If you know what "season," you are, this is a lot easier. It is very easy to be swayed by an incredible deal even if the color is one that turns your skin to a color akin to having the flu.
- Write down approximate amounts needed for tank tops, short sleeve sweaters and whatever you are considering making. Remember yarn amounts should be measured by the yard, not by ounces.
- Collect all the yarn you wish to buy and go sit down with it for awhile. Look through some knitting magazines or chat with a friend. Then go back and review what you have and buy the truly good deals for you.
The links below will give you some ideas about colors for 2005. But every year you can do this research. Go to your favorite search engine and type in, "colors for spring 2005." Of course you can do this with any season and any year.
