Dainty Allover Eyelet

© Esmerelda Jones

This is a vintage eyelet pattern, lovely and dainty as an allover pattern for baby clothes. A stocking stitch background is dotted with three eyelets in each group and is quite simple to work. The abbreviation "0" means yarn forward and over needle as in yfwd or wfwd. I use the "0" in all my designs as a personal preference.

First work a few rows of stocking stitch, then commence:
Row 1: K1 *K6, 0, K2TOG, K2* repeat to last st then K1.
Row 2: All alternate rows are purl.
Row 3: K1 *K5, 0, K3TOG, 0, K2* repeat to last st then K1.
Rows 5 and 7 are knit.
Row 9: K1 *K1, 0, K2TOG, K7* repeat to last st then K1.
Row 11: K1 *0, K3TOG, 0, K7* repeat to last st then K1.
Rows 13 and 15 are knit.
Row 16: Purl.

Repeat the 16 row pattern. Where shaping occurs in a garment it is easy to decrease or increase in stocking stitch and miss a group of eyelets if necessary as if will not affect the look of the pattern; where as with a larger pattern you must shape within the repeat of each group.
