2nd Row: Slip one, purl 159.

The decreasings are to be made in the front in each 4th row and at back in each 6th row until sixty-six rows are worked. Now leave twenty stitches in the centre of the work, and knit the side fifty-four stitches for two rows (one plain and one purl row, keeping the outside border stitches as before), then leave four stitches towards the centre in each alternate row till only ten stitches are left. Knit the other side in the same way.

Make another leg to match the back and front to be opposite the back and front of first leg. After working the second leg put the two legs together in front. Begin the band.

1st Row: Knit all stitches (taking two together at each opening made by turning back, after leaving the four stitches towards the centre, work five rows without decrease.

7th Row: *Knit four, knit two together* repeat to end of row. 8th to 12th Rows: Without decrease.

13th Row: Knit two *thread twice round the needle, slip one, knit two together, pass slip-stitch over, repeat from* till two stitches are left; knit the two plain.

14th Row: Purl one and knit one in the made stitches, purl the rest.

Four rows plain knitting to make two ridges.

For the gusset to be sewn in at the opening of leg, on needles, size 13, cast on one stitch, knit one, turn, increase one at beginning of each row till thirteen stitches are worked, cast off. Sew up the openings at bottom of each leg, and run ribbon through the holes round the leg. Also put ribbon through the holes round the top to tie behind.

A tidbit on knitting "pins" says: "are to be had in steel, wood, vulcanite, bone, ivory, and tortoiseshell in all sizes and length, that is, 6 inch, 9 inch, 12 inch, 15 and 18 inch, with and without knobs; they are supplied in pairs or sets of 4; steel pins are 1d. for 4 pointed and tapered at each end, wood knitting-pins are 1d. and 2d. a pair. Bone are from 2-1/2d. to 6-1/2d. per pair, according to length. The articles can be had at the prices mentioned at Messrs Wakeford Bros., 102 to 106, King's Road, Sloane Square, London, S.W."
