This Medieval styled robe was designed by Paul Magnusson and is one of the free patterns at Cosy Place Knits. It's ideal for those in re-enactment societies and features a border of mohair or soft-spun wool. You could also do the border in one of the fascinating woven knit stitches using several natural dyed colors. The main wool yarn is a worsted weight cream, but an effective change would be to use a similar weight in hand-spun, perhaps in another fiber. I think this robe could be an original showpiece, worth the time and cost.
This robe is intended to be very heavy and warm. It has full enough dimensions so a person can sit on the floor cross legged without stretching the lower body of the robe. It is floor length on a person of 5 feet 8 inches tall. There is a large hood and a belt for further comfort and flexibility. The sleeves are intended to be turned up into a cuff when you need your hands. It is knitted on circular needles and when finished has no apparent seams.
