Can I brag for a moment? Check out google.com and do a quick search for ‘retro kitchens’.
Guess what? My previous article comes in first AND second! Cool, huh?
Ok, so back to retro kitchens. This month’s article will highlight retro appliances. From my searches, on google of course, I have discovered that there are lots of people out there selling antique appliances to people who want a retro look in their kitchens. I was initially surprised to see so many stoves and ovens in the listings on the sites but I think I have figured out why. In the fifties and earlier there weren’t that many other appliances around, except for fridges. If you remember the fridges from that era, you probably remember things like the noise they made, the power they consumed and how they screwed up our ozone layer. Stoves, on the other hand, are usually more efficient and, generally, have a longer life span than fridges. This means that dealers have more of a selection of stoves, both gas and electric, to choose from when offering items for resale. Ok, search through these links and see what you can find. A word of warning on stoves, especially rebuilt ones ... make sure you buy from a reputable dealer and buy from someone who will offer you a warranty. Why? Well, if you’ve ever seen a house demolished by a gas explosion, I think that no explanation is necessary. Electric stoves are only just a bit safer when reconditioned. You can still fry yourself as well as an egg on one that has not been carefully restored. Here are the links :http://www.antiquestoves.com/ This site is pretty self-explanatory. Spend some time looking around and you will see some pretty cool old stoves. The only confusing part is the Java pic that keeps refreshing and showing a new stove every time. Click on the one that intrigues you, as it flashes on the screen, and a link will open up to give you more details. I know that you are all computer savvy and this last bit was completely unnecessary but , hey, the only stupid question is the one you don’t ask, right? This next site is pretty cool. Not in the way the site is presented, which is actually kind of mundane but in the stuff it has to present.http://www.chimneysweeponline.com/kitchen.htm As always, scout around but be sure to investigate the fridges with their incredible colored door inserts. Even if you are not into the retro thing, these fridges can make a very strong statement in your kitchen. They’re Go To Page: 1 2
