A Series of Unfortunate EventsDo you want to read a story of misery and woe about three orphans? What about being locked in a tower unsure of their fate? How about watching in horror as their evil uncle, Count Olaf, tries tirelessly to steal their family fortune? Count Olaf is one of the many villains and problems the three Baudelaire orphans must deal with after a disastrous fire steals them of their mother, father, and home. If reading these tragic adventures is your cup of tea, then you will find them in the line of "A Series of Unfortunate Events" by reclusive author Lemony Snicket. Lemony Snicket warns you from page one that the tale you are about to read is one of misery. Yet, instead of turning away from these dastardly events, they actually hook you in as a reader. The first book in the series is titled The Bad Beginning. We meet Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire. From the start, we do in fact realize that it is a bad beginning for the orphans. They are sent away to live with their uncle, Count Olaf. Count Olaf is evil in its purest form and will stop at nothing to trick the Baudelaire orphans out of their family fortune. Count Olaf is tall and has one eyebrow that is menacing to anyone who catches it in their sights. Currently, there are ten books in the series, with the eleventh book due out September 21st. There are rumors that the series will run to Book #13. Of course 13; it is an unlucky number! The hardcover books have wonderful artwork throughout the story. I love the "A Series of Unfortunate Events" books so much that I also recommended their website in my "Best of the Web" section. You can check out http://www.lemonysnicket.com. That is, if you dare to! I'm also happy to say that a movie is in the works for the first book, The Bad Beginning. It stars Jim Carrey as Count Olaf. What an exciting movie to look forward to watching at the movie theatre. It opens in theatres December 17th, and you can view more about the movie at http://www.unfortunateeventsmovie.com . On another note, I would also like to mention that the editors of Kids' Korner have created an e-book anthology just for you! In it, you will find some of my Kid's Korner Mystery Book Group articles and other entertaining stories from Kids' Korner editors. The anthology is titled Fun, Fun, and More Fun. You can find it under the "Best of Suite Anthologies" and download it for $5.95.
