A Few of Grandma's Recipes© Donna Smith
As with many Grandmas, mine is a wonderful cook. I don't ever remember eating anything at her house that wasn't great. Fried chicken is her speciality. I'd love to share that recipe with you but I can't. She really does nothing special to her chicken. She's told me hundreds of times how she prepares it, but no matter what I do, it never comes out the same. Many think it's the "magic pan." Some think she just sticks her finger in the flour mixture, making something magical occur that no one can explain.
Grandma used to make this wonderful pickle recipe, too. I always liked the cauliflower better than the pickles, so she used to put extra in when I was around. (Sometimes she'd leave out the cucumbers all together!) What could be more wonderful than cooking recipes from Grandma together with your own kids? Get Grandma to share your kids favorite recipes (result to bribery, if necessary) and teach them how to prepare them. It's never too early to starting practicing cooking Grandma's specialities (it will probably take many, many years to perfect.) I hope you enjoy these recipes as much as me and my family had over the years. Grandma Tootsie's Pecan Pie 1 cup brown sugar Mix all ingredients together and pour into an uncooked pie shell. Bake at 375 degrees F for 40 to 50 minutes. Grandma's Cinnamon Cookies sift together: Add creamed ingredients to dry and chill dough one hour. Roll into balls, then roll in a mixture of 1 tablespoon cinnamon mixed with 1/4 cup of sugar. Bake at 350 degrees F for 9 to 11 minutes. (This depends on how BIG you make the cookies.)
