A Feast for Dad: Complete Father's Day Fun Menu

© Mary M. Alward

Father's Day is on June 19th. Do something special for Dad on his big day. Make him a complete meal with a little help from Mom or another adult. He will appreciate your efforts and it will be a real treat.

Baked Brown Beans

What you will need

2 - 64 ounce cans of deep browned beans

2 tablespoons of dry mustard

1/2 cup of brown sugar

1/2 pound of partially fried bacon

What to do

Pour beans into a large casserole dish.

Add mustard and brown sugar.

Mix well.

Top with partially fried bacon.

Put in a oven that's been preheated to 350 degrees F. and cook for 45 minutes. Delicious!

Homemade Burger

What you will need

Seasame seed or kaiser buns.

1/4 pound beef patties, salted. (One for each member of the family, two for Dad.)

Kraft Hickory BBQ Sauce.

Cheese slices, if desired.

Condiments (onions, relish, lettuce, mustard, tomato, ketchup, or whatever else your family likes on burgers.)

What to do

Grill burgers on the BBQ with adult supervision.

Add Kraft Hickory BBQ Sauce when you flip the burger.

When burger is completely cooked, add a cheese slice, if desired.

When cheese is partially melted, remove burger from the BBQ and place on bun.

Add condiments and serve.

*Note: Be sure burgers are cooked completely through and there is no pink in the middle. Partially cooked burgers contain deadly e-coli

Vanilla Maple Shake

What you will need

2 cups of 2% milk.

3 tablespoons of pure maple syrup

1 large scoop of French Vanilla ice cream

What to do

Combine all ingredients in a blender and run on medium until smooth and frothy.

Pour into fancy glasses that have been frosted in the freezer and add a marschino cherry.

This recipe makes 2 glasses.

Ice Cream Sandwich

What you will need

1 - 18 ounce package of Dad's favorite cookies. (Bake them with an adult if you wish.)

Dad's favorite flavor of ice cream, softened.

What to do

Place 1/2 cup of softened ice cream on the flat side of a cookie.

Top with a second cookie, placing the flat side next to the ice cream.

Press gently.

Roll the sides of the ice cream sandwich in chocolate shavings or sprinkles.

Wrap tightly with plastic wrap.

Place on a tray in the freezer.

Make more ice cream sandwiches, wrapping them tightly and placing them on the tray in the freezer.

Freeze for approximately 2 hours before serving.

* Note: Make one ice cream sandwich for each member of the family and two for Dad.

If you cannot be with your Dad this Father's Day, make this meal for a senior or for a father who cannot be with his kids. Another alternative is to make the meal for an uncle or older brother.

Mary, this is a terrific feast for Father's Day or any day. That vanilla maple shake sure would have hit the spot today as the temps flirted with 100 degrees! ...
