Dying Easter eggs is lots of fun. Over the years, I've tried many different methods. You can create marvelous designs by using a bit of creativity.

Maybe last week's dimple method of designing Easter eggs wasn't creative enough for you. Maybe you want to make some really cool designs that are a bit more challenging. This week, we're going to look at different ways to create designs on Easter eggs.

Prehistoric Easter Eggs

What you will need:

* a dozen hard boiled eggs. (Ask an adult to help you cook these.)

* cheesecloth (one 7 inch piece for each egg you plan to color

* elastics

* paint brush

* Easter egg dye or a mixture of warm water, a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar and ten drops of food coloring of your choice. Be sure to make several different colors of dye.

* a great imagination.

What to do:

* wrap each egg in a square of cheesecloth. Make sure the egg is tightly wrapped.

* gather the cheesecloth at the top and secure with an elastic band.

* With your paintbrush, add dye to the cheesecloth. You can use a variety of colors or only one color. Colors can overlap if you wish.

* When you have finished painting your egg, place it in an empty egg container and allow it to dry thoroughly. (1 hour)

* Remove the elastic band and cheesecloth.

You know have an awesome colored Easter egg.

Another Method:

If you wish you can wrap your egg in cheesecloth, secure it with the elastic band and put the entire egg into your favorite color of dye.

* When you have the color you want, remove it and let it dry thoroughly. (1 hour)

* Take your paintbrush and apply different colored dye to the cheesecloth.

* Let dry thoroughly. (1 hour)

* Remove the elastic band and the cheesecloth.

These are just two ways to make beautiful prehistoric Easter eggs. Using the cheesecloth, dye and your imagination, think up some methods of your own.

Psychodelic Eggs

What you will need:

* a dozen hard boiled eggs. (Ask an adult to help)

* elastic bands in a variety of widths.

* egg dye

What to do:

* Wrap six elastics of different widths around a hard boiled egg.

* Place egg in dye

* Remove the egg from the dye when you have the desired color.

* Remove three of the elastic bands.

* Place the egg in a different color of dye.

You can do this varying the amount of elastic bands that you remove. For example if you want to use three colors of dye, only remove 2 elastic bands when you take it out of each dye bath.

lots of fun, Mary. I love coloring eggs with the grandkids. Even more fun, watching them hunt eggs!
