Butterfly Gardens, 6th in a Series of Children's Garden Themes - Page 2© Linda Mazar
For a design, I have come across some butterfly gardens where the bed is shaped like a butterfly. Perhaps using a fallen log for the body of the butterfly and various flowers for the wings. This could work well especially for a garden made up of mostly annuals and is a cute idea. Others just put in a special bed or corner of a garden for the butterflies. Still others incorporate flowers and plants that attract butterflies throughout their garden beds so plants throughout the garden bring in the butterflies. You and your child can do whatever is most attractive and exciting for your family. Just ask what interests them and start simple.
I hope this gives you some ideas for making a butterfly garden with your kids. They will learn so much from observing the caterpillars and butterflies nearby in their gardens. Since we are all in different parts of the world, it is a good idea to seek out information about butterflies in your area and what they prefer. Much of the above information was culled from the MN Extension Service, National Audubon Society, and various other sources. Have fun! Go To Page: 1 2
