Summer's End

Sep 1, 2001 - © Linda Mazar

I have finally decided to pull out and toss away the variegated weigelia bushes I planted a few seasons ago. They are just not winter hardy up here. They die down to the root each winter. And since the blossoms come on old wood, I have yet to see them bloom with the pink flowers they are supposed to be covered with. Instead of these bushes, I think I will try some spirea instead. They seem to do well up here in the north.

As autumn approaches, there is a lot to accomplish and I hope to cover some of that in the next two months. Until then, take stock what worked and what didn't and think about what you will do next year.
