You can set your used Christmas tree into the garden as a windbreak, and next summer, it will make a great support for your climbing plants like cucumber, squash, pole beans, and morning glory.What not to Do
In the previous article, I told you how we recycle Christmas trees in Winnipeg, and I hope that you have been thinking about what to do with your tree. Our family does not have an indoor Christmas tree any more. The last one we set up, an artificial one, got destroyed by our cat who jumped into it. That brought it down, crashing all the glass ornaments. I was so worried about the poor cat getting hurt that I decided never again to bring such a death trap into the house.Donated Christmas Trees
So I don't have any Christmas trees to recycle, but some of my neighbors give me theirs. I set them up in my garden, and maybe you and your parents can do that as well. Those trees will be useful there for the rest of the winter as well as all of next summer.Christmas Trees in the Winter Garden
I like to set the trees in the snow between other trees or shrubs. They make great windbreaks. Those windbreaks help to trap snow which will keep Mother Earth and her children warm all winter.Christmas Trees in the Summer Garden
In the spring those trees will make great supports for climbing plants which I let grow around them. Cucumbers, squash, pole beans, and morning glories can climb up on them and cover them completely. Those plants can be sown right around the base of the Christmas trees.
