Thanksgiving has surprised me this year. It seems to have come so close to Halloween this year. Here are some ways to celebrate this American holiday.
"Children are unpredictable. You never know what inconsistency they're going to catch you in next." - Franklin P. Jones CRAFTS- Make a tablecloth of Thanksgiving. Unfold a white tablecloth into two halves and lay on table. Put newspaper between the two halves to prevent ink from running. Each person takes a turn to write at least one thing they are thankful for on the tablecloth. Start with "I am thankful for...". After you have filled one side with ideas, flip it over. Again, have everyone write at least one thing. At dinner, go around the table so everyone can read the things they are thankful for. Make a fall wreath. Cut out the middle of a paper plate. Paint the "doughnut" shape a fall color. Glue on fall leaves from your yard on the plate to make a festive wreath. Make your own turkey. Trace your child's hand with fingers outstretched on brown construction paper. The thumb of the paper is the head and the fingers are the feathers. Draw features as you wish. Make a spiced turkey. Do the same as above except put glue on palm and fingers of the paper and then sprinkle spices (cinnamon, cloves, allspice, and nutmeg) on the glue. Try designing your own Indian Turquoise Bracelets. Cut toilet paper rolls into 3"-4" sections. Cut an opening to enable roll to fit over wrist after completion of project. Paint the roll silver. Paint lima and pinto beans turquoise. After tubes and beans are dry, glue beans on tube. Make napkin rings for the table. Cut a ring off a paper towel tube about 2 1/2". You can paint it if you want. Cut out different colored construction paper leaves. Glue the leaves to the top of the ring. Add a few acorns for a finished look. Make an ear of Indian corn. Cut a corn shape from orange construction paper and stem from green. Glue the ends together. Kids glue Indian corner all over the orange section. Try making a Thanksgiving candleholder. You'll need a baby food jar, Thanksgiving or fall stickers, white glue, paintbrush, glitter, and raffia or ribbon. Apply the stickers securely around the jar. Using a paintbrush, completely cover the jar sides from right below the jar threads to the bottom of the sides. Sprinkle with glitter. Dry. Tie raffia or ribbon around the jar threads. One for each guest makes a great place setting and they can be taken home afterwards as gifts. Go To Page: 1 2
