Halloween Part 4

Here is the last installment of my Halloween madness! Next week, I promise, we will move on to a new subject. Here are some more costume ideas, crafts, games, cooking recipes, and fun web sites to look at with your kids.

QUOTES-

Children are the only form of immortality that we can be sure of. - Peter Ustinov

COSTUMES-

Scarecrow- Start with old baggy pants and a shirt. Tear 1" strips about 4-5" long out of yellowish colored fabric (straw). Glue or sew these so they hang out of the sleeves and neck opening of the shirt and also out of the bottom of the pant legs. Use a different colored material and glue or sew patches all over the pants and shirt. Wear a straw hat. Attach a fake bird to your shoulder.

Tree- Wear a brown sweat suit and cut out many leaves from green felt and glue or sew them to your suit, mostly on the arms.

Face Paint- You'll need 1 tsp. cornstarch, 1/2 tsp. water, 1/2 tsp. cold cream, and food coloring. Stir together the cornstarch and cold cream until well blended. Add water and stir, then add food coloring. Removes with soap and water. Store in an air-tight container.

CRAFTS-

Paper Bag Wig- Start with a paper bag that fits over kid's head. Cut out a rectangle from the front of the bag for the face. Glue on yarn for hair.

Ghost- Draw a ghost on white paper with a white crayon. Kids paint the paper with dark water colors or diluted tempera paint. Kids paint the whole page and ghost will appear through the paint.

Scrap Paper Jack- Draw a circle on black construction paper. Paint inside the circle with glue. Tear scraps of orange construction paper in small pieces. Put the pieces on the glue. Add torn scraps of yellow for eyes, nose, and mouth.

Ghost Pin- Start with all the "extra" puzzle pieces that you have. Paint the front and back of the pieces white. Let dry. With a black permanent marker, draw stitches around the front of the puzzle piece. Draw eyes and mouth. Glue a pin to the back of the puzzle piece.

Bats- Paint a toilet paper roll black or cover with black construction paper. Staple one end shut. Glue on bat wings made from black construction paper. Glue on two googly eyes.

GAMES-

Pass the Pumpkin- Use a mini pumpkin and pass it around a circle with no one using their hands, only necks!
