Halloween Part 2

OK, here is week 2 of Halloween ideas. Here are some more costume ideas (my kids like to dress up year round)crafts, games, cooking recipes, and web sites.

COSTUMES-

Elephant- Start with a gray sweat suit. Make a elephant ears headband (the same way as we did the cat ears from the week before). Have kids paint a paper towel roll gray. When dry, punch 2 holes near one end and tie on some yarn for trunk to hold it around kid's head. Use felt or construction paper and cut out a short, pointy tail and safety pin it to the sweat suit.

Flower- Start with a green sweat suit. Cut leaf shapes out of green felt and glue here and there on the suit. Using the same color felt, cut 2 strips that are long enough to fit around child's neck and lay over on the back about 1". Cut large petal shapes out of felt (any color). Glue the straight edge of petals along the edge of one of the strips. Glue the other strip on top of the petal edge and other strip to secure them in place. Once glue is dry, use self-adhesive Velcro on the strip to make a "collar" out of the strip you cut.

Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head- Lay out a large brown garbage bag flat. Cut out 2 holes for legs on bottom edge of the plastic garbage bag and cut out 2 holes for arms to fit through along the sides of the bag. Use felt or construction paper to make eyes, nose, mouth, and other features. Glue features onto the bag. Wear dark colored sweat pants and a dark shirt. Slip on garbage bag and stuff with crumbled up newspapers. Gather it loosely around child's neck.

Mummy- Start with a white sweat suit. Tear strips from a large white sheet and help tie them all around the child. Paint face white. Sprinkle baby powder in hair and on sheets.

CRAFTS-

Halloween Pictures- Kids take pre-cut Halloween figures (bats, pumpkins, cats, spiders, etc.) and place them on black or orange construction paper. Using sponges dipped in color paint opposite the construction paper, press the sponge around the entire cut out. Take off the template to see your picture.

Wreath- For wreath base, cut out a large doughnut shape from poster board or cut out the middle of a large paper plate. Paint it green. Draw and cut out shapes of Halloween creatures, witches' hats, ghosts, pumpkins, and goblins. Paint your shapes the colors you wish. Attach yarn to back of the wreath in a looped shape so you can hang it up.
