Halloween Part 1Halloween is my favorite holiday. For me it is a day of empowerment. This is a special day to say goodbye to loved ones that have passed in the last year and honor them. This year we will be setting a plate for dinner for my grandfather and lighting a candle for him in our window to help guide him to the afterlife. Whether it is a Halloween holiday where you get to dress up and get candy, or a religous Samhain to celebrate your ancestors, I have some fun ideas to get you into the spirit. This will be a four part article over this month. You can imagine what my house looks like by Oct. 31! QUOTE-- Life expectancy would grow by leaps and bounds if vegatables smelled as good as bacon. COSTUMES-- Astronaut- Make a paper mache space helmet using a balloon as a guide. Use 1 cup flour and 1 cup water and mix until runny. Stir into 4 cups boiling water. Simmer 3 minutes, then cool. Wear a white sweat suit and use fabric paint or permanent markers to make buttons, knobs, and other stuff for embelishment. Black Cat- Start with a black sweat suit. For the ears: Using black construction paper, cut a strip about 2" thick and long enough to wrap around child's forehead plus 2" longer so you can staple ends together. Fold another piece of black paper in half and cut out a set of pointy cat ears. If you want to add stripes, spots or other designs, do it now. Put the bottom edge of each ear against the strip of paper and staple or tape in place. Once ears are attached, staple strip together to fit snuggly around forehead. Use felt or construction paper and cut out a long tail. Use a safety pin to attach to back of pants. Use black eyeliner or face paint and make whiskers and a black nose. Blue's Clues Dog- Start with a light blue sweat suit. Cut different size circles out of dark blue felt. Sew or use tacky glue to attatch your spots all over suit. Use felt or construction paper for a tail and attatch with a safety pin. Use black eyeliner or face paint for black nose. Make blue dog ear headband same as the black cat. Dalmation- Start with a white sweat suit. Make a dog ear headband same as the black cat. Cut different size circles out of black felt and sew or use tacky glue to attatch all over suit. Make tail out of felt and attach with a safety pin. Paint nose black.
