There a lots of science sites so if you have an interest in, are curious about, need to plan for the science fair, or even a little daunted by science you might want to check out some of these neat science activities and crafts. My all time favorite is Bill Nye, the Science Guy. With over 40 different home demos to try, you can't go wrong, this is a great place to start. http://nyelabs.kcts.org/flash_go.html If you're looking for science explanations to some basic questions as well as home demos to try Beakman & Jax's page http://www.beakman.com/ Another really great place to go is the Exploratorium. It is an incredible place to learn and discover many different science concepts and ideas. Check out the Science Explorer for simple experiments and tests http://www.exploratorium.edu/ I used many of these at my camp. Another great institution for science is the Franklin Institute Science Museum. There is so much to do here, check out their main attraction, using science to crimes, or scroll down towards the bottom of the page to see science activities http://www.fi.edu/tfi/. If you really want to stay close to your computer try http://BrianJones.CTSS.ColoState.edu/Mou... a site with physics experiments. Another great place to go is http://www.looklearnanddo.com/ Look, Learn, and Do, science experiments from the Professor.

One of my favorite topics is social studies. This includes learning about other cultures, studying geography, and cartography, and learning another language. This site is great to learn about other cultures and places http://www.supersurf.com/ it has many things to do, be sure to check out 'Fun from Afar'. Another great geography site to learn about the world is Geo-Globe, created by three students for the ThinkQuest competition. http://library.advanced.org/10157/geoglo... The list of all links has an alphabetical listing by country, really cool. For the daring, try National Geographic's Geography Bee, http://www.nationalgeographic.com/geogra... Learn the BeeBasics and practice with the GeoChallenge.

Are you a writer? An illustrator? Would you like to try your hand at writing your own story and maybe winning a contest? For those in Kindergarten through 3rd grades Reading Rainbow has a special contest, 'The Young Writers and Illustrators Contest'. The contest begins in January of the year 2000, http://www.kqed.org/cell/readytolearn/rr... but now is the time to start coming up with ideas. For those 12 and younger, try TheCase.com's monthly writing contest http://www.TheCase.com/kids/ This is a great place to practice your writing, thinking, and problem solving skills. For older kids, here are some writing exercises to encourage creative writing http://www.writeworks.net/writing_exerci... and explore different ways of writing.
