Ogden Nash has always been a favorite poet of mine and to celebrate his humor this week's crafts will be dedicated to animals. First, try some verse from Ogden http://www.aimnet.com/~veeceet/kids/nash... or read The Ostrich http://www.westegg.com/nash/ostrich.cgi or Termite http://www.westegg.com/nash/termite.cgi for a quick glimpse into his wit and humor. Now that you know how silly animals can be, let's try making different ones in the spirit of Ogden Nash.
Here's a page full of animal crafts followed by animal games from The Activity Cupboard http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/7997/.... Spend some time here and find wonderful ways to entertain kids. If bugs are your bag, try http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/7997/... this one, also from The Activity Cupboard. Or, if you can sew, try http://WWW.SEWING.ORG/kidspage/bugjuggle... an easy and useful craft. And, you can always count on Making Friends to come up with a clever craft like these yarn bugs http://makingfriends.com/yarn_bugs.htm Plus from Hobby Lobby are two more ideas: http://www.hobbylobby.com/site2/projects... Of course, puppets are a big favorite so try these http://family.go.com/Categories/Activiti... from Family.com. Recycling your egg cartons is a great way to create these creatures from Enchanted Learning http://www.EnchantedLearning.com/crafts/... Also try Crayola's paper plate animals http://www.crayola.com/crafts/crpg33.html -- quick and easy to make. For a fun and unusual project try http://www.gustown.com/Museum/Crafts/Spr... from GusTown. Includes a template for the animal or create your own. If you prefer an Indoor/Outdoor activity start indoors collecting your supplies, then head outdoors for http://family.go.com/Categories/Activiti... a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon. Or, if you want to take a walk outside and collect stones and rocks, then head inside for http://www.owl.on.ca/chick/icanmake.html a clever way to make use of a budding rock collection. Teddy Bears for even the smallest ones can be made using this method http://www.bushnet.qld.edu.au/%7Esarah/s... a special page by special people. From Hobby Lobby comes these clever pom pom animals http://www.hobbylobby.com/site2/projects... A great stand by for making animals is paper mâché. Here is an easy-to-follow recipe with a history of paper mâché http://www.tappi.org/paperu/artClass/pap... from Tappi University. Also check out their paper bag fish project http://www.tappi.org/paperu/artClass/pap..., a really neat activity. Finally, if you like to draw, this page shows you how to use your hand to make animals, http://www.efn.org/~jondae/kidlinks.html This one is a camel. If you click on last week's crafts you will also see how to make a fish and a bird. Go To Page: 1
