During summer, many families take vacations. Often these include car trips, plane trips, or train trips. When we vacation, my son and I bring along a craft travel pack. It is full of supplies for easy crafts and activities to make and enjoy and don't require a lot of space. You can remember your trip with homemade postcards or please a friend with a flower bouquet or greeting card.
Your first job is to put together a craft traveling pack. This might be your book-bag from last year or a carrying case. The important part is that is have various pockets and zippered compartments to store a variety of crafting tools and supplies. The main compartment should be able to carry paper and other oversized items flat. Your Craft Pack supplies: o Markers, crayons, colored pencils o Mini-stamp Markers o 8-1/2 by 11 white paper o Construction paper o Scissors (different cutting edges if available) o Two or Three Folders o Glue stick o Couple of sheets of clear contact paper o Pencils, pens, and pencil sharpener o Package of buttons o Lanyard or crafting string o Old single socks o Strips of fabric o If mom says its okay, small sewing kit o Ziploc bag of pony beads o 8x11 or 9x12 sheets of gift paper o Tape o Clipboard or hard surface to write and color on Now it's time to select the crafts and activities that you will take pack. Try making an "I Spy" picture and riddle during your trip. You can use the summer theme or pick a travel theme. Check here for instructions and ideas http://www.scholastic.com/ispy/make/mak_.... Feel free to forward it to me if you make one, I'd love to see it. If you'd rather keep it simple, Crayola has some wonderful coloring pages. Just print and store in your folders for later use. http://www.crayola.com/color_index.html You may even want to print a greeting card to color and mail back to a friend at home. Another great craft for traveling is http://www.makestuff.com/crayon_blackout.... For a scraping tool, use a capped marker or pen. A stop at the local craft store may be in order, but it's a worthwhile trip. One great activity is making bead buddies. You can print the directions and beads needed from over 650 items at http://www.spiritone.com/~pmead/beadwelc.... A tip: count the beads out before the trip and add five to seven extra of each, just in case you drop some. Also cut the string ahead of time to ensure it is long enough. You can also make bead jewelry if you don't want to follow a pattern. Go To Page: 1 2
