Summer's Here And If You'd Like To Participate In Summer Camp Activities Without Having To Leave Home, Try Creating A Summer Camp For A Day At Home.

SETTING UP With Mom's (and/or Dad's) approval start your summer camp by making a sign. To start your camp will need a name and a sign. Gather old brown grocery bags (two or three), construction paper, tape, scissors, and markers or paints. Cut the bags so that they lay flat. Print the name of your camp on different colored paper using paints and markers. Tape the bags together from the back and then tape your sign up in a creative place. You may want to add a theme like Fun in the Sun or Summer Fun.

Next you'll need a camp shirt and/or socks. An easy way to create this through tie-dye. Try these two sites, mix and match the techniques and ideas to create your own masterpieces.

Tie-dye Shirts from 4-H http://coopext.cahe.wsu.edu/infopub/em47... You'll need to scroll down the page for the Tie-Dye heading.

Tie-Dyeing should be done outside in the shade. Be sure to wear gloves so you don't end up with dyed fingers.

CAMP CRAFTS & ACTIVITES Nature Walks are a natural part of the summer camp experience. You can just take a walk or keep some craft ideas in mind. If you want try finding a rock to make a "Pet Rock." Here's how: http://www.girlslife.com/petrock.html.

Maybe you've found a great stick and want to make a walking stick. Try this: http://family.go.com/Categories/Activiti... Or, turn it into a Wish Stick: http://www.kinderart.com/sculpture/wish.... Then there's the other kind of walking stick, try this: http://www.kckpl.lib.ks.us/ys/insects2.h... You may want to try other insects after viewing them on a nature walk. If leaves are your think, and you found a few, you might try these projects:

What's camp without beadie buddies. For easy, free patterns and directions check out http://www.spiritone.com/~pmead/beadwelc.... There are over 650 patterns. Try practicing with the snakes first as they are the easiest if you've never created a beadie buddy before. For other exciting craft ideas try World Book's CyberCamp a great resource: http://www.worldbook.com/fun/wbla/camp/i....

CAMP SNACKS After your walk and crafting a snack might be in order. There are lots of crafty snacks that can hit the spot, try some of these:

CyberCamp's Dining Hall http://www.worldbook.com/fun/wbla/camp/h... For Toadstools to Toasted Tongues as well as other appetizing treats http://home.gci.net/~thecookswishes/kid/... (Not everything is edible so read carefully before preparing.) From our scouting friend try these http://www.melborponsti.com/speirs/treat...

Well, hopefully you will have an opportunity to camp outdoors, maybe pitch a tent, unroll a sleeping bag and spend a night under the stars. If you have that opportunity you might try star gazing first, http://stardate.utexas.edu/nightsky/star... will give you a current daily list of what is available in the night sky.
