Can you figure out a way to keep sticky syrup from sticking to a spoon? Try this experiment to get an idea.
two spoons cooking oil syrup bowl Holding the spoon over the bowl, pour syrup into the spoon and then let the spoon empty into the bowl. Observe. Next, pour oil into the spoon and dump it into the bowl. Now, pour the syrup into the spoon that had the oil and let it run into the bowl. What happened? Oil and syrup will both stick to spoons. But they will not mix with each other easily. When you pour oil out of the second spoon, a thin layer of oil remains. When you put syrup in the spoon, it will not mix with the oil layer, so it easily slides off the spoon. You may have seen this same process in cooking. A pan that you cook brownies in must be greased. If you make marshmallow treats, you butter the pan and the spoon that you spread the mixture with. It's a good idea to even put butter on your hand when you press the mixture down into the pan. Oil and sticky don't mix so you don't get as sticky as you could. http://www.halcyon.com/sciclub/
