I just got back from two weeks at the beach with my kids and while I was
there I was astonished by the number of spiders that I saw around the
cottage. We are having a very hot and dry summer and I think that this
is resulting in the exploding population. I wish I had taken my computer
with me so I could have looked some of them up to see what kind of
spiders they were. If you haven't guessed by now this week I'm going to
feature spiders and sites that have cool spider stuff.
The first spider site is so complete I almost decided to give up after I
found it.
Arachnology -
Kids has a listing with a huge number of arachnids sites. Spiders
are part of the arachnid family which also includes scorpions and ticks
and a few other creepy crawlies. You may recognize the little spider
graphic when you visit this site. That's where I got it from. There are
probably over 100 sites listed so I couldn't check them all. Why not let
me know what your favorites were after you've had time to look around?
I know that one site wouldn't make you happy, so I'll list a few other
sites that I found in my wanderings.
Webs of Life is part
of the great Dragonfly
site. These pages are designed to go with dragonfly magazine but they
are lots of fun even if you don't have the magazine. Webs of life lets
you design an island that's perfect for spiders but before you do you
should explore the three special islands so you can discover what
spiders really like.
If you have always wondered why spiders don't stick to their own webs Microscopy UK has an article you
shouldn't miss.
Graham's Spider has
information on spiders for you and for your teachers.
Antelope
Publishing has an old time spider poem for you to enjoy. Be sure to
look around this site as there is lots to see and do.
Well, that's about it for me. See you all next week.
