(Note: The Internet is a dynamic place and web sites can come and go quite quickly. This is one of my older and some of the links may not work anymore. If you find that this is the case I invite you to look at some of my more recent articles. My links section has my favorite links from past articles and is checked regularly for non working links. I've seen the virtual fish tank (a video of a fish tank) and my local cable company shows a virtual fire on the community channel every Christmas but no virtual dogs yet. Well that may not be true, I don't hang around the video store, the WWW is where I do my cruising. There is certainly no lack of material on dogs to be found out in the World Wide Web.

One of the first places to start is right here at the suite with the Dogs Behavior and Training page. One or to of the links are the same as the ones I'll list but generally there isn't much overlap.

Every kid should have a dog but sometimes it's just not possible and most people know that kids are notoriously unable to take care of their own dogs so parents who buy dogs for their kids should be prepared to take care of them themselves. Parents should also remember that the cute puppy they see in the pet shop will live from 10-15 years so buying a puppy isn't a decision to be taken lightly.

A good place to start your canine explorations (whether your buying or just looking) is Dog Owners Guide at www.canismajor.com, one of pages that particularly attracted me was Kids and Dogs, Safety First. Another good site if your contemplating the purchase of a dog is Canine Directory @ Acmepet. This site includes a large list of links to breed specific websites. If you decide not to get a dog then Acmepet has material on cats, birds and fish. Acmepet also has chat areas where you can talk about pets. One of these areas is specifically targetted to kids. I am wary of suggesting chat areas to parents because of the possibility that people looking for kids may hang around there. I recommend that parents watch carefully when children use chat rooms of any type.

A site that includes a selective list of dog related sites is Kate Shaws dog links. One of my favorites on her list is www.dogphoto.com. This site has many, many stock shots of dogs, all of them extremely cute.

My kids (6 years, 4 years and 5 months old) don't have a dog. I wouldn't
