(Note: The Internet is a dynamic place and web sites can come and go quite quickly. This is one of my older and some of the links may not work anymore. If you find that this is the case I invite you to look at some of my more recent articles. My links section has my favorite links from past articles and is checked regularly for non working links. This week the focus is on dinosaurs. Most kids are keenly interested in dinosaurs and Jurassic Park just seemed to increase the dinosaur mania. Dinosaurs are best experienced live. Of course everyone knows there are no live dinosaurs left so we have to settle for their fossilized skeletons.

Most museums have a dinosaur or two and to really get a feeling for their size nothing beats standing at the base of their skeleton and imaging what it would look like if a T-Rex was chasing after you. The grandness of dinosaurs doesn't translate well to the small screen but if someone is researching a school project a good place to start is the Dinosauria a veritable cornucopia of dinosaur information. One of the Dinosauria's resources is their Dinosaurs in Cyberspace Dinolinks. One of the really great sites they have a link to is Royal Tyrrell Museum Virtual Tour. I have visited this museum and would recommend that anyone traveling to Alberta, Canada make a side trip to Drumheller and visit the Tyrrell. Not only will you get a good look at the Alberta badlands but if you have the slightest interest in dinosaurs the Tyrrell is for you. The next best thing is to take the virtual tour. Another highly recommended site is Dinosaur Eggs Museum a site with pictures of dinosaur eggs and baby dinosaurs. This site is an offshoot of National Geographic magazine which is another great resource for kids for information about our world. Another site worth visiting is The Field Museum of Natural History. This site has more dinosaur information including some multimedia clips of dinosaurs running. These sites should give you a good start on your explorations of dinosaurs on the WWW. Another interesting site to visit is http://www.levins.com/hadrosaurus.html. This site chronicles the discovery of the first mounted dinosaur skeleton (or so this site claims). What's really interesting is how the location where the fossils were found was brought to the attention of the community by a 13 year old boy scout who researched the site and brought it to the communities attention.
