Stories, Art and other fun sites© Wayne Dawe This week it's time to clean out the bookmark file and let you in on all those great sites I've found that didn't quite fit in with the themes of the articles in the past few weeks. The first site is Kids' Corner at Wired for Books. This site has three illustrated Beatrice Potter Storybook's on line for the smaller kids to read and browse through. Another site offering illustrated kids stories is Children's Storybooks Online. Most of the stories are for smaller kids but there are one or two that are aimed at the older kids. Captain Pugwash is another good online illustrated story site. To start the story click on the blue arrows near the bottom of the page, be sure you wait for the sounds to load before continuing or you'll miss part of the fun. Another site that I've pointed you for specific stories in the last little while is Kidpub WWW publishing. This site publishes stories from kids all over the world. This is the site to send your budding author's stories to. The National Gallery of Canada has a virtual tour of the Canadian section of their collection. The really neat part is the narration of the tour in both English and French. The Realaudio player is required to hear the narration. If you don't have Realaudio you can read the text of the narration yourself. If you or your kids caught the recent network TV presentation of Braveheart you may be interested in seeing the differences between the movie and the history we know. Historical Braveheart. Some of the concepts and themes discussed on this site may not be suitable for small children but if a kid saw the movie then there is nothing on this site that will shock them or scandalize you. Another site that I recently received mail about is Why is Mona Lisa smiling. This arts driven inquiry explores the mystery behind the smile and features original da Vinci music. I particularly liked the morphing picture, subtle but neat. That's all for this week, don't forget to come back next Tuesday, If your a first time visitor don't neglect browsing through some of my other past articles before you leave.
