What I did on my summer vacation

The summer is almost over, so this month I thought I'd tell you a bit about what we did on our summer vacation because I'm sure that in a few days teachers across the country will be asking, "What did you do on your summer vacation?".

This year we went to the SummerFolk folk festival that is held every year in Owen Sound which is about a 30 minute drive from the cottage at Sauble Beach where we stay. Sauble Beach is a long sand beach that is located on Lake Huron, one of the great Lakes.

Summerfolk was a great deal of fun for both us and the kids, during the day there were workshops where a group of performers would play in a less structured venue that the big concert in the evenings which ran from 6 to 11. If you get a chance to visit a folk festival in your neighbour I'd suggest you give it a try.

One of the bands we saw at Summerfolk was Tanglefoot. They had fun a fun upbeat show, one of the songs that was really popular was Seven a Side that tells the story of a hockey game between a small and a big town. The little snippet of music you heard when you entered this page was from a Tanglefoot song.

While we were at the beach we saw a lot of very small shells along the beach. I though they were Zebra Mussel's but after I got back and checked out the pictures of Zebra mussels I'm not so sure anymore. One day I saw a Crayfish swimming in the surf. He seemed to be having a bit of trouble in the small waves that were breaking on the shore. I also found another good site with more Crayfish resources for you to check out. While I was looking for zebra mussel and crayfish sites I came across the Animal Diversity Web. It's a great site full of information on all types of animals.

At the cottage we had some old toys lying around, one of which was an old green plastic boomerang. We all had great fun learning to throw it so that it would come back. It's a good toy to play with because one person can have fun all by themselves. I found a great boomerang site at Boomerang resources for Kids. At this site you can learn how to throw boomerangs, how to make boomerangs including cardboard boomerangs and even buy boomerangs if you are so inclined. You can probably also find inexpensive plastic boomerangs at most well equipped
