Christmas comes but once a year

(Note: The Internet is a dynamic place and web sites can come and go quite quickly. This is one of my older and some of the links may not work anymore. If you find that this is the case I invite you to look at some of my more recent articles. My links section has my favorite links from past articles and is checked regularly for non working links. With Christmas fast approaching, I thought it was time to propagate some Christmas sites to help get everyone in the mood. Christmas has been getting a bad rap the last few years. Some keep saying it has been too commercialized and perhaps they're right. Our secular society and the forces of the market try to co-opt everything to its own uses and the major Christian religious festivals have suffered from this.

It's up to you and I to fight these trends and to focus on what Christmas is all about. Even though Christmas is a Christian festival I think the ideas behind Christmas cross religious boundaries - and I don't mean Santa Claus. Even Santa has a place in the Christmas story, not as a toy flinging character who will fulfill your every wish, but as a person who has taken the concept of giving to the ultimate. I think it's up to parents to teach kids not to make up long lists to Santa of the most expensive toys they can think of, but to stress that Santa has only so many resources and asking for too many or too expensive gifts is selfish.

Well, enough lecturing; time for some sites. Christmas! Christmas! Christmas! from Not Just for Kids. This is a well balanced site with a beautifully illustrated version of the Christmas story in four languages, links to Santa, Christmas traditions and other Christmas related sites as well as lots of Christmas music to listen to as you surf. A Religious Christmas - 1997 is a site just chock full of Christmas information, Christmas music, links to Christmas art, drama, music and other holiday websites that are worth a visit. These two sites have so much worthwhile content and links to other good sites that I'm not going to give you too many other links - at least not this week. It would be well worth your time to fully explore these two sites. So, of course I'm going to give you a few more
