Snow: love it or leave it© Wayne Dawe
(Note: The Internet is a dynamic place and web sites can come and
go quite quickly. This is one of my older and some of the links may not
work anymore. If you find that this is the case I invite you to look at
some of my more recent articles. My links section has my
favorite links from past articles and is checked regularly for non
working links. Wayne)
It snowed this week at our place for the second time this year. The significance of this snowfall is much greater than the last one because I had to shovel it away. For the benefit of kids who don't get to see snow until much later I was inspired to feature snow in this week's article. So here we go, sites that specialize in snow. My favorite snow site is Kids Snow Page. The Teel family has links to snow art, activities, literature and other sites with snow information. Don't forget to explore the other snow links - there's lots of fun and information buried there. Dry Net Services has a nicely illustrated page on how kids can make their own snow flakes by cutting a folded sheet of paper. For something a little different check out the illustrated story Mac the Macaroni, the penguin who liked to dance. Lots of snow in this story. Mrs. Jeans's class has put together a collection of Winter Poems. These second and third graders live in Wichita Kansas so they certainly know their snow. SNOW Kids' has only a tenuous connection to snow but it's a neat page so I decided to include it anyway. This site has fun and educational activities for kids in grades one to three. This site is specifically targeted towards kids with special ceeds but most of the content would be just as useful for other kids too. While I was at SNOW I found out about Read To Me. Read to Me is a program developed by the Hawaii Education Literacy Project which reads electronic text in a synthesized voice. The voice is a little hard to get used to but I can see many uses for it. Links to classic etext from the Project Gutenburg can also be found on this site. After installing the Read to Me software you can choose a piece of classic literature to be read to you. Think of it as free books on tape and you can see the possibilities. As promised elsewhere I have a special link for users of Internet Explorer 4.0. BoraKai is one of the best sites for kids using Dynamic HTML I have seen so far. Go To Page: 1 2
