Games to play in the car© Wayne Dawe
(Note: The Internet is a dynamic place and web sites can come and
go quite quickly. This is one of my older and some of the links may not
work anymore. If you find that this is the case I invite you to look at
some of my more recent articles. My links section has my
favorite links from past articles and is checked regularly for non
working links. Wayne)
A parent shouldn't discount the old standbys of car travel, the magnetic checker, chess, backgammon or other game boards that were a staple of my growing up years and are still available in most toy stores. There are also those small handheld video games that seem to infest most Radio Shack stores in my area. Many card games are also quite amenable to car play. Links to card game rules can be found in an article I wrote during the summer about games to play at the beach. To review old articles just click on the articles link in the orange bar on the left side of the screen. Connect the dots, mazes, word searches and crosswords are other activities that can keep kids amused as the kilometres (or miles) roll by. Some sites offering puzzles of these types are Fleabusters' Kids Fun Page, Grolier Clubhouse, Just for Kid's from NASA's Space life Science Data Archive. Kids Eye View Word Finds, Mulberry Street Connect the Dots, Sheep USA Just for Kids and Percy's Puzzles. All have a combination of word searches, connect the dots and crosswords. The Chesapeake Bay crossword puzzle would have been hard if the answers weren't printed at the bottom. Be sure to explore this site as there are more fun activities you can print out and take with you. The granddaddy of all word search sites that I found was John's Word Search Puzzles. John tries to make up four new puzzles each month. His 60,000 visitors since March can't be all wrong. On a more serious note, Nov. 11 is the day in Canada we honor the sacrifice of those who fought and died in the first, second and Korean Go To Page: 1 2 |
