A mixed bag of sites to visit

© Wayne Dawe

(Note: The Internet is a dynamic place and web sites can come and go quite quickly. This is one of my older and some of the links may not work anymore. If you find that this is the case I invite you to look at some of my more recent articles. My links section has my favorite links from past articles and is checked regularly for non working links. Wayne)

A bit of cleanup this week as I shake out the bookmark file and clean out the links that don't really fit into any one category but are still worth a look.

The first is CBC 4 Kids. CBC (for you non-Canadians out there) is the public broadcaster in Canada. I looked at this site quite a while ago but forgot about it until someone sent me e-mail reminding me that I should give it some attention.

About six months ago I did an article on Narnia and Winnie the Pooh. While verifying those links this week I found another good Narnia site. This site is music-enhanced. I like music on web sites (as anyone who has visited my site recently can attest to) so this one gets two thumbs way up. Check it out at The Land of Narnia.

My brother gave me a small clipping from Toronto Computes last time I visited him. It lists two dynamite sites for Kids. The Royal Ontario Museum has field guides to mammals, birds, amphibians and fish for Ontario. These field guides have photos and, in some cases, sound samples for the animals shown to aid in the identification of animals you might see in your neighbourhood. The second site listed was www.clubtheo.com. This site has edutainment activities for kids. I'm not sure if I like the word edutainment - what do you think? I just love getting mail from people who read my articles or who start a discussion right here on Suite 101.

An article targeted more towards parents can be found on Writers Write. "How can I Help My Child become a Writer in the Age of Nintendo and Carmen San Diego" should be required reading for all parents.

That's it for this week. It's been a busy week at my house with everyone suffering through the first cold of the season so there have been lots of runny noses to wipe and a baby who wakes up in the middle of the night with a hacking cough. The weather was great here today so maybe this week will be a little less hectic. See you next week.
