The boys greet the millennium

After a sizeable pause we return to the tales of the three small boys who live in the small house. If you were here last summer you may remember the boys and their chicken pox adventure and their racoon in the attic adventure. When we rejoin the boys they are preparing to greet the new Millennium. The smallest boy said to the middle boy "What's a millennium"? The middle boy explained "A millennium is what people it call when 1000 years has passed since the birth of Jesus Christ. People are a little confused this year because there was no year zero so really the new millennium doesn't start until January 1st 2001". The older boy piped in. "The whole Y2K computer bug issue has got alot of people focused on this year because some computer programs might have a problem when the date changes from 1999 to 2000". "Are you worried?" the smallest boy asked the oldest boy. "Not really", he replied "but perhaps I should buy some wood for the stove, just in case". The middle boy added, "I think I'll go to the store and get some bottled water, if the power goes off because of a computer problem we may get thirsty, I don't think I want to rely on melting snow from the backyard". "That would be yucky", the smallest boy agreed. The boy joined up later in the day, the smallest boy was carrying something. "What's that?" asked the oldest boy. "It's my flashlight, for when the lights go off", the smallest boy replied. "That's not a flashlight, it's a Viewmaster projector", the middle boy said. "If I take the little picture reel out, it works just like a flashlight", and to prove it he shown the beam form his projector into the middle boys eyes. "That's really quite bright", the middle boy agreed. "Should we get our tent out too?" the smallest boy asked." I don't think that will be necessary", the oldest boy replied, "We always can get it out if we need it. Also I decided that I wouldn't get any wood for the stove, we can always cut down a tree in the backyard if we need it". The boys changed into their pajamas, got some soft drinks, and cheesies and sat down in front of the TV to wait for the lights to go off. About an hour before midnight came the smallest boy said "I'm tired, I think I'll go to bed". The oldest boy said "I'll come with you so you won't get scared when the lights go off". They both soon fell fast asleep. The middle boy waited, Viewmaster projector and water jugs at the ready as the clock counted down. 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, Happy New Year! Fireworks were going off on TV, people were jumping up and down and the lights stayed on. "Harumph", the middle boy exclaimed as he went off to bed, "what am I going to do with these jugs of water now".
