Aquariums for Kids

When I was cleaning out my basement this weekend I came across the old aquarium I had when I was a kid. I remembered that one of my kids saw the aquarium my nephews had at their house on Thanksgiving. By the way, I live in Canada and we celebrate our Thanksgiving in October. He was fascinated by the colourful fish swimming around and I thought that setting up an aquarium might give the boys something to take care of and help make up for their lack of a pet. The nice thing about aquariums is that fish don't have to be house trained and your can leave them for the week without having to board them at the kennel. If kids can't take care of their aquarium, then don't expect them to clean up after the puppy. Now it's time for a mixture of aquarium related links. Virtual Aquarium is a cute little shockwave applet with some animated fish. Aquarium is a whimsical page filled with animated images. In the aquarium game you place pictures of sea creatures on outlines in the fish tank. Little kids should find this most amusing. Tetra virtual aquarium lets you put together your own aquarium by choosing fish, plants and background. Be aware that if you choose the Java moving aquarium they warn that it could take 5 to 10 minutes to load. Hawaii's Sea Grant Virtual Aquarium lets you explore Hawaii's reefs without leaving your chair while the Fishcam lets you view a aquarium in real-time. You can also tour another Virtual aquarium put together by students at Montgomery Academy in San Diego. When you're ready to set up your own tank you can see a description of some tropical fish that you may want to put in your aquarium. Starting an aquarium was written by two students as part of the ThinkQuest project. For the definitive aquarium resource don't forget Aquariums @ Suite101.com that has articles and links to aquarium resources from the beginner to advanced level. That's it for this month, come back next month for my big Christmas extravaganza, you won't regret it.
