Stamps: Are kids still interested in stamps anymore?

(Note: The Internet is a dynamic place and web sites can come and go quite quickly. This is one of my older and some of the links may not work anymore. If you find that this is the case I invite you to look at some of my more recent articles. My links section has my favorite links from past articles and is checked regularly for non working links. When I was just a kid I used to collect stamps and I wondered if kids collect stamps anymore. David Shapiro's Place on the Web soon answered my question. He's a 10-year-old stamp and coin collector. So I went on quest for other stamp collecting links that might be of interest to kids who are looking for something to do instead of watching TV. Junior Philatelist's has information and pointers for the budding stamp collector as does Stamp Collecting Basics.

More general purpose stamp links can be found at Stamp Link which has a collection of stamp collecting's best sites by category. Scott Kitchen, Joseph Luft and Chuck Hendricksen all have good listing of stamp collecting links.

When searching out stamp information you shouldn't forget the web site of the country issuing the stamps. Stamps reproduce well on web pages and many countries have well designed webpages. Canada Post is one example, Britain's Royal Mail is another. The Royal Mail site is particularly appropriate for kids because they are currently doing a series of classic horror story stamps. To find the horror stamps click on previous issues and then Tales of Terror.

I'm going to run a bit short this week because I have been trying to fight off a cold for over a week, but I have two more unrelated links to drop on you this week. Gamelan has created a special collection of Java games for your enjoyment and my own little Java effort needs some beta testers. My balloon applet is still in the formative stage and I crave some feedback on how to turn it into a real game. I also want to know if it does anything funny in your browser. Please send me some mail with your comments and suggestions.

That's it for now! See you next week.
