Raccoon in the attic, a modern fairy tale

Once upon a time there were three little boys who lived in a little house. One night when they were sleeping there was a scratching noise from the attic. The little boys sent their Dad up a ladder into the attic with his flashlight to see what was there. Over in the farthest corner his saw some eyes glowing in the dark. They belonged to an animal what was smaller than a dog but bigger than a cat. It was a raccoon!

The next day Dad told the boys what he had found. The boys thought about the problem for a few minutes and told their Dad. "Raccoons move around at night, maybe if we put a light in the attic the raccoon would find it too bright in the attic and move someplace else". So their Dad got a light and an extension cord and put the light in the attic. The boys neighbours were very surprised to see light coming out of the attic vents but decided not to say anything.

After waiting until the next day so the raccoon could leave after the dark the boy's Dad told them that the raccoon was still there. They boys thought some more and told their Dad; "We don't like loud music maybe if you put a radio in the attic will convince the raccoon to move someplace more peaceful". So it was up the ladder again for the boys' Dad, this time carrying the radio to put in the attic with the light. When the neighbours heard rock music coming out of the attic they realized why their was light in the attic, there was a party going on in the attic and they hadn't even been invited!

Another day and night passed and again their Dad told the boys that the raccoon was still in the attic. The boys decided that the raccoon must like rock music. The boys thought about the problem some more and told their Dad; "Moths don't like moth balls because they smell funny, maybe the raccoon won't like the smell either". So it was off to the hardware store to buy some moth balls. The boys reminded their father that he should put the moth balls in something so that they could take them out of the attic after the raccoon had left. They asked their Mom if they could use an old pair of her nylons. She said it was OK and gave the nylons to their Dad who filled them up with the moth balls and went up the ladder again to try and persuade the unwelcome visitor to move
