(Note: The Internet is a dynamic place and web sites can come and go quite quickly. This is one of my older and some of the links may not work anymore. If you find that this is the case I invite you to look at some of my more recent articles. My links section has my favorite links from past articles and is checked regularly for non working links. Yes, this week I'm writing about socks. As I was poking around I came across The Bureau of Missing Socks. This site is most appropriate for older kids and deals with the problem of missing socks, including a song about missing socks, an on-line famous missing sock museum and a few more amusing pages. This page inspired me to see what I could find about socks that kids might find interesting or amusing on the Web. For a scholarly treatise originally published in Physics World check out What happens to all those socks.... A Short History of Socks provides just what it says in a humorous way. I'm not sure that I'd want to use "A Short ..." information in a term paper without independent verification.

A more serious sock site is Selecting Socks, an Ohio State University factsheet. The Costume Page - Informational links is a bit of a stretch in the sock department but has a wealth of links to sites with information on costumes. This is a great site for the budding costumer or thespian. Moving in the less serious direction Sock Hell has a listing of other sock-related Web sites including sites with information on knitting your own socks. A serious story about the auctioning of Napoleon's socks can be found at Napoleon's socks. Getting back to the more silly, NEWSBREAK - The socks that talk is a story by a second grader about talking socks.

What article about socks would be complete with out a mention of Fox in Socks by Dr. Seuss? I think I'll take a bit of a turn from the sock theme and provide something for the smaller kids in the audience. More Dr. Seuss links can be found at Seussian links which has a listing of links rated from one to five stars. Seussville is the official Dr. Seuss Web site hosted by the publisher Random House.

We have now come to the end of our tale of socks, so see you next week.
