Airplanes: Planes, Planes and more planes© Wayne Dawe
(Note: The Internet is a dynamic place and web sites can come and
go quite quickly. This is one of my older and some of the links may not
work anymore. If you find that this is the case I invite you to look at
some of my more recent articles. My links section has my
favorite links from past articles and is checked regularly for non
working links. Wayne) A couple of weeks ago it was trains; this week it's Web sites dedicated to flight and especially to pictures of planes. The first site on the list is Moo's Aircraft page. Moo's page has simple explanations on the basics of flight and a few aircraft pictures. Another great site for learning about flight is Welcome to Take Off! This site is the on-line resource for a video program called Take Off but I think the site is a great resource even if you don't have the videos. There are activities on aircraft and flight, suggestions on research for kids and many other fun science-related things. I suggest you bring this site to your child's science teacher's attention to help them make learning science fun. Another good site for both information and pictures is The United States National Air and Space Museum Galleries Map. Make sure that you click on the small aircraft pictures so that you can see the larger version of the images. I've been to this museum and it's well worth the trip if you're ever in Washington D.C. Pattern Simulator is a Java applet that simulates the landing pattern that aircraft follow when they land. It's a little bit of fun that is also educational. Publications is a site with on-line booklets from the Minnesota Department of Transport. The booklets cover the basics of flight and some flight history. Dryden Research
Aircraft Photo Gallery has photos of planes that have been tested
at NASA's Dryden flight Research centre. A few more sites with
pictures are Aero.com
photo's which has photos submitted by aircraft watchers and Where to fly aircraft
pictures which has more pictures taken by dedicated amateurs. Images of
aircraft is a site with pictures of commercial aircraft as is Boeing Aircraft
images which has pictures of the commercial aircraft people fly on
everyday. The Boeing site also has pictures of their military aircraft
and has a screensaver of Boeing aircraft you can download at Boeing Screen
Saver. To finish up the links for this week I have Image Archives
which has a list with some more links to aircraft images and
