Narnia and Winnie the Pooh: Books you might want to check out© Wayne Dawe
(Note: The Internet is a dynamic place and web sites can come and
go quite quickly. This is one of my older and some of the links may not
work anymore. If you find that this is the case I invite you to look at
some of my more recent articles. My links section has my
favorite links from past articles and is checked regularly for non
working links. Wayne)
My original plan for this was to do an article on the Narnia series by C.S. Lewis. As I was researching links related to Narnia I didn't find the depth of material I expected. I found a few really good high quality sites related to C.S. Lewis but nothing specifically designed for kids. I decided to provide these links and try to point you to the relevant areas of each site. As luck would have it I stumbled across a great site that is part of the The Canadian Teacher- Librarians Resource page. It's called Just for Kids Who Love Books. This page contains links to pages of favourite children's authors and is very highly recommended. One of the other sites it links to is Into the Wardrobe, The C.S. Lewis Web site. This site is a very complete reference for the works of C.S. Lewis. Of particular interest to kids who are familiar with the Narnia stories is the images page which has illustrations of characters and scenes from most of the books. Cair Paravel has a little more information about the Narnia books (Skill testing question: What does Cair Paravel refer too?). When browsing through the Narnia series pages it's important that you not be scared off by the references to the Narnia books as Christian allegories. These books can be taken at face value and still provide an excellent read. There are also some videos of the books produced by the BBC that you may catch on TV, or you could also check availability at your local video store. I recommend that people read the book before they see the video since I consider the book to be a better all-round experience than video. If you don't think Narnia is to your taste, or perhaps your kids are too small, then you might want to stop at The Page at Pooh Corner. This site has information on that silly old bear Winnie the Pooh and links to other Winnie the Pooh sites including "Winnie the Pooh and Friends - An Expotition. This is a 30-page tour through the Hundred Acre Wood of A.A. Milne, designed, researched and written by a twelve year-old young woman. As in the case of Narnia, Go To Page: 1 2
